The Artist:
Meredith Noles is a multidisciplinary creator traversing the fields of fashion and textile art. While living in Florence, Italy, she apprenticed under local textile designers where she created handpainted fabrics for Italian fashion houses. This practice highlighted the bridge between art and fashion, which is at the core of her work. It is most notable in her interest in organic and artisan techniques. While living in New York City honing her hand as a fashion designer, she continued to work as an artist, creating weavings that celebrate natural fibers and artisanal methods. Her work is firmly rooted in the interplay between the structural and organic as well as modernity and nostalgia. Noles now lives in Fort Worth and is the head clothing designer at Laude the Label.
The Sol House Weavings:
Made exclusively for Sol House, each weaving in the "SolTerra" collection is woven entirely by hand. Inspired by the warmth of sun-baked soil these pieces are composed of natural fibers that Noles dyes with botanicals, as well as upcycled fibers. Materiality and sustainability are integral to her work as an artist. The viewer is invited to explore the nuanced color story provided by natural dyeing techniques - naturally occurring colors through undyed wool, alpaca fibers, jute, and previously dyed upcycled fibers.
